What is the ELF? 

ELF is the Economic and Leadership Forum. It is an annual event aimed at introducing Malaysian youths to the current major issues of economics, business and the trajectory of our nation. We seek to expose you to new ideas, encourage you to form opinions and discuss the problems you see around you, and enable you to begin thinking of solutions in the Malaysian context. This is achieved through one day of panel discussion and one day of case study competition (Case study competition application is limited to students only).

What's the theme for ELF2019?

The theme for this year is “Reaching Beyond, Redefining Within”.

 

The first part focuses on the Malaysian trading and investment relationship with other Asian countries, as well as how we could learn from their economic models. The second examines inequality as a long-standing hurdle to Malaysia’s further economic development and how we can address this moving towards high-income nation status.

When and where will it be held?

Date: 3rd - 4th August 2019 (Saturday & Sunday)

Time: 9 am - 5.30 pm (both days)

Venue: Sunway University, Subang Jaya, Selangor

Who hosts ELF?

ELF is hosted by a group of Malaysian students studying at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)  and supported by LSE Students’ Union Malaysia Club has been proudly hosting ELF for the 5 years running.

Who can attend ELF?

Anyone with an interest in pursuing knowledge to understand current trends from an economic point of view, regardless of background. There is no requirement to have studied economics before. An open, curious mind is all you need. However, the case study competition is limited to students only.

How much does it cost to attend the ELF?​

It is free of charge. However, you will need a confirmation email to attend ELF by registering for the event.

Who will be speaking at the ELF?

​Our speakers will be prominent leaders from the public sector, the civil service and the private sector. Our event also includes inspiring individuals and public figures. More details about speakers will be released soon and be continuously confirmed up until the day of the event. For last year's speakers, we hosted the CEO of EPF, Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan Malaysia, Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul Aziz, CEO of CIMB and other highly-regarded speakers.

Will food be provided during the forum?​

Yes! Lunch will be provided for all participants. There will also be light refreshments for the participants during the other breaks.

Will special food requirements be met?

​Yes! Please let us know when filling up the registration form. Be it halal, vegetarian, no seafood - all food requirements will be catered accordingly.

What is the dress code for the forum?

​The dress code for both days will be business formal. Any violation of the dress code by participants will be barred from entry.

How will delegates be selected for this forum?

​​Delegates for the panel event will be selected on a first come first serve basis. As for the case study competition, delegates will be selected based on merit due to high demand. A confirmation email will be sent to you to confirm your reservation by no later than one week before the event.

When is the deadline to apply for ELF 2019?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all places are filled up. However, do keep tab on our social media pages as we may announce a closing date for registration in the coming future.
